Day 1 – July 19, 2010
What a great start to camp this year!We want to welcome all of our new campers this year and our returning campers as well. The Blackhawks started the day on the ice with skills testing. Testing will continue for all groups again on Friday; all results will be sent home on the ATP report card. The Flyers started of with hockey tactics, followed by an ice session of skills testing. Our oldest group, the Penguins had a great game of touch football, fitness with coach Mike and their first ice session. All three groups have 2 ice sessions each day, 1 1/2 hours each. All of the kids worked hard, participated with enthusiasm and met new friends. Tomorrow we will present our first Leadership award to one camper in each group. Dave McNeill of Hanbridge and Bowmann has graciously donated 5 gift certificates to SportChek for $25 each. There will be other awards as well to be won for those campers that display good sportsmanship, hard work, and support others in the group. We have a fantastic group of kids at camp and look forward to a week full of fun and of course, hard work!! Enjoy the Day 1 pictures found in the Gallery.
New for 2010…

A Final Note..
Wow! Hard to believe that the camp is finished for another year and the summer will now move on towards another hockey season. There were a great deal of highlights over the course of the week and hope that you take the time to look through the posted pictures to remind you of your favourites. As always, the camp focused on hockey fundamentals in our on and off ice programs and includes an emphasis on leadership and team training. Our coaches covered a broad range of topics from attitude to nutrition and even touched on power play and penalty kill theory. On ice it was business as usual as we tried to keep everyone moving with a steady dose of skills, team play, and, of course….fun! Each year we try to introduce new elements to our camp that will better serve your hockey needs and make the camp more rewarding. This year we included a report card to go with our testing program and developed a power skating circuit that could build and reinforce good skating technique in each of the major areas on a daily basis. This varies from traditional power skating instruction which involves teaching and drilling a skill, only to move on to a different skill on each subsequent day, leaving little time for review. The third addition is this website which we hope you enjoy as much as we have enjoyed its creation. We would also like to thank our staff for their effort and dedication to the same philosophies and goals that we feel makes this camp a success and I can tell you they have as much fun as the campers. It was a great week and I want to thank all of you for taking part and working so hard. Don’t be a stranger this season as we cross paths in various arenas and we look forward to having you back next year!
All the best,
Rob & Audrey Lee
Camp Day 4
Luckily, the rain held off for most of the day, but even with a little bit of drizzle, the kids continued to play and have fun outside! The Wings began the day with an interesting type dodgeball; with tables as blockages the kids ran through the course trying their best not to get hit by the ball (the pictures will explain it all!). All groups both worked very hard through a series of 12 fitness stations…skipping, ladder run, balance ball, squat runs, wall sit, step ups, etc… The Canucks also worked with Coach Page on a few team-building games…Rock, Paper, Scissors train, followed by Team Rock, Paper, Scissors (once again, the pictures explain it all!)
On-ice all groups worked through a number of stations, working on speed, agility and further improving their skating skills. Today was also evalutaion day. All campers will receive an Evalution/Report Card on Friday at the end of camp.
Don’t forget, tomorrow is our annual Water Fight! Please bring a water gun, towel and most importantly…change of clothes.
You still have time to order the 2009 ATP Camp photo. Please let me know by tomorrow morning if you’d like one. The cost is $5.00 and pictures will be ready by the end of the day. Also, if you have not already done so, Income Tax reciepts are ready to be picked up from your child’s instructor.
Sincerely, Audrey
Camp Day 3
With this beautiful weather, excited and energetic campers, wonderful instructors and counsellors…..we couldn’t have asked for a better day at camp. For the Wings, the day started with a gruelling 45 minutes workout by Coach Mike; one sure to build up the lacic acid in those muscles and make then a little sore for tomorrow! The Canucks and Penquins were also put to the test with repeated intervals of squats, bounding and leaps. Outside, the Canucks worked together as a team by all standing on the planks together and moving it one step at a time. For all groups, the ice-sessions this afternoon involoved skating with parachutes, triangle tug-of-war, ladders and pulleys, to all further devop their power skating skills.
The pictures will help explain some of these activities, however I apologize for the poor picture quality. I tried a different setting on the camera today that didn’t turn out as well as I thought it would! Tomorrow, the pictures will be much better!
The 2009 camp photo and now been added to the site. James Masters once again did a fabulous job in putting this together and taking such a great shot of over 100 people. If anyone would like a copy please let me know by Friday morning and we will have it ready for the end of the day. The cost for the picture is $5.00.
See you all tomorrow,
Audrey
Camp Day 2
Day 2 at camp was another fun and exciting day for the kids. After the first ice session the entire camp posed and gave their best smile for our annual team shot (this soon will be posted on the site). In the fitness component, coach Mike worked the campers through a series of kickboxing excersises. I could see the smiles on their faces as they tried the jab, side kick, back kick, then upper cut! Coaches Coyne and Page worked with the campers on a variety of tactical excercies, including 2-on-1 strategies. The kids continued their skill developement with outdoor shooting and stick handling excercises. On-ice, the kids are moving from individual skills to team concepts. And just in case you thought it was just all hockey all the time, there was fun to be had with baseball, dodgeball and bridge tag.
The player handbook has been added to the site and can be downloaded from the mainpage. This handbook was created by Rob to help the kids continue to learn and develop all season long.
